"I was (a right-handed batter) up to bat at a high school baseball game. The sequence of events seemed normal until my left shoulder subluxed (partially popped out of place) as the ball ricocheted off the bat. The feeling was unpleasant, but I wanted to continue playing, so my coach and I agreed that I would only pitch (right-hand) for the remainder of the season. I continued to play competitive baseball throughout high school and college, ignoring the shoulder pain that I was experiencing almost daily. However, the pain became more bothersome even after trading the bat and mitt for a desk job. When the pain began to radiate to my neck and back, I finally decided to get it checked out at American Hip Institute. After an MRI confirmed a labral tear in my shoulder, the clinical team first recommended dedicated, focused physical therapy to enhance my scapular control and overall strength, but my left shoulder still felt abnormal compared to my right. After a follow-up visit, and given my continued limitations, the team next suggested arthroscopic surgery to fix the tear. I opted to pursue same-day, arthroscopic surgery, and I’m so glad I did! I had a 180º tear of my shoulder labrum, which they were able to fix perfectly. Shortly after surgery, my neck and back pain disappeared and my shoulders began to feel equal again. It’s been 3 months since my surgery, and I am so happy with the results. I am back at the gym and, more importantly, living each day without any restrictions. Thanks American Hip Institute for your surgical expertise!"
